For big national left wing blogs like the Huffington Post, it’s interesting to see how often they seem to draw attention to conservatives in under the radar races that have nothing to do with national politics. Their purpose is usually to attack conservatives, if only indirectly by taking something out of context and hoping to make the person(s) sound extreme. But as they say, no publicity is bad publicity…At least not always.
The latest example is their piece about Lt Colonel (ret) Ray Moore, a conservative constitutionalist who is running for the GOP nomination for South Carolina Lieutenant Governor.
The Huffington Post actually reposted a story from The Raw Story .com about Moore. Though the piece doesn’t editorialize much as to their opinions of Moore, the intent is obvious that they are taking what out of context may seem somewhat extreme to mainstream moderates and liberals. It’s very similar to Meet The Press calling Lindsey Graham primary challenger, Lt Col Bill Connor “too conservative”, a badge Connor embraced calling it a complement considering the source.
Moore argues that as a culture, America must begin to turn away from what he calls “a godless public school system”, and turn back to a private and home school based system over time.
I personally have an interesting perspective on the subject being as how I was homeschooled along with my siblings, and also considering that I am married to a public school teacher.
I make clear that I am a strong proponent of home and private schooling. But I am also not a hater of public schools in the sense that many people are. There are many good public school teachers, and even some public schools that do a fairly decent job at educating children within a flawed and broken system. But I do agree with Moore that the ultimate solution is to get government, especially the federal government totally out of education.
Nine times out of ten if the Huffington Post and the liberal left is trying to bring negative press your way, then you must be doing something right. Ray Moore should be happy they consider him a threat to the golden calf that has become the federal Department of Education.
