Lindsey Graham challenger – 23 infantry officer Bill Connor has just received promotion orders, making the “Colonel’s List” and gone from Lieutenant Colonel, to “Lieutenant Colonel Promotable.”
The promotion means that Connor will soon take the official rank as full bird Colonel as soon as a commission becomes available.
Making promotion to full Colonel is always a tough and impressive accomplishment, especially in light of all the recent cutbacks to the military which currently leaves a long list of officers competing for far fewer available promotions.
Connor spent the first 12 years of his military career as an Airborne Ranger, making his way up through early promotions to positions such as Company Commander and General’s Aide (Aide De Camp). During his time as a Ranger Commander he served on a peacekeeping mission in Egypt and Israel, and also served as a liaison between American and British forces there.
After 12 years, he then left full time service as a Major and entered the National Guard from 2002-2008. In 2007 Connor volunteered for combat duty in Afghanistan where he was promoted to Lt Col and served as Senior US Advisor in Helmand Province and was awarded the Bronze Star.
From 2008 to the present Connor has served in the Army Reserves and is currently the Director of the Army’s Command and General Staff College (ILE) in SC and is a member of the U.S. Counterterrorism Advisory Team.
Connor, along with partner W. Thomas Smith Jr. founded National Defense Consultants LLC, a partnership providing clients with military analysis ranging from geostrategy to special operations; counterterrorism; ground, Naval, and air combat; military leadership and military law.
Connor is running for the GOP nomination for the US Senate as the Conservative Constitutionalist alternative to Lindsey Graham and has been endorsed by many conservative tea party leaders at the state and national levels. The primary will be June 10th.
Regarding his promotion, Connor posted the following on his personal facebook page – “I want to thank God first, and those who have mentored me since I was a “knob” at The Citadel in 1986, then Infantry LT in 1990. I want to particularly thank all those non-commissioned officers (sergeants) like SGM Lugo (my first company First Sergeant), SFC Schaeffer (My first platoon sergeant), SGM Jim Miller (friend and scout platoon sergeant in Hawaii), SGM Andy Bolt (Senior NCO with me going to Afghanistan), and many other enlisted soldiers and junior officers. It is because of your work that I have made the promotion list to Colonel. HOOAH!”
